[Of course, he has no idea what she's thinking, but a little friendly banter never hurts. It's surprisingly good at easing tension, he's noticed, if that was even a thing that he was feeling in this moment. Which he doesn't. For now.]
[ 'You should', is what her mind supplies but she doesn't actually say.
...It's probably for the best Henry doesn't have any idea what she's thinking. ]
Are you saying you like me enough to tolerate my company? Maybe even enjoy it? [ Teasing is fun, easy, and helps distract her from what she can't actually say. ]
[It helps that he's been with one of the most complex women ever for ten years. He knows what compliments to use when and how often, and when not to do it at all.]
Mm. I truly am glad you are back in one piece, though. [A beat. He suddenly thinks to change the subject to something a little more... small-talk.] Any plans today, then?
[ Thankfully, Rose isn't nearly as complex. She's just awkward and unsure when it comes to people being genuine.
He's glad. The woman tries not to read too much into that, tries not to make it anything it isn't but - Dammit, it's really difficult not to. ]
I didn't have anything in mind, really. Looking for work, later - [ anything to keep her thoughts occupied with something other than the PETCC ] - but even that's up in the air.
I'm trying to find something as a musician right now. But I'd take working in a music shop or music channel on the network here or... anything related.
[ What else, what else - Oh, right. ] I've been solicited for 'entertainment' work too - [ he can hear the emphasis for air quotes ] but I don't think I've got what it takes for that.
A music shop sounds quite fitting. [And pauses a moment to let out a small huff of a laugh.] Though you being a singing star would be fantastic, as well. Imagine that, being friends with someone famous.
Psht, I'm not good enough to be famous. [ It says a lot that Rose is most confident in her musical aptitude, but still doesn't believe she's capable of fame. ] But it'd be fun to be known locally, at least.
I'm working on it. [ There's a split second of deliberation, always the uncertainty of if she should ask questions about the little things as well. Most people don't ask, so she doesn't. But most people don't know her for more than a few days. ]
Do you have a job? [ He doesn't have to, as an elite, but... several people she knows seem to be busybodies. Not working is too dull. ]
It certainly would be. [He's not going to try and convince someone of something that he doesn't exactly know much about either.]
I do- that is... [He trails off, as if mulling something over.] I think I still do. My boss has been a bit M.I.A, lately, so I don't know if her absence will shake things up a bit. We'll see. Either way, currently, I do still have a job, as I am a free agent in a sense.
[ M.I.A. could mean a lot of things. Her Haven-wired mind immediately supplies 'storage,' but that's just something embedded. It's hard to say what happens to the citizens of Amoi when they disappear, yet Rose isn't about to be surprised if it's anything but pretty. Part of her wants to hope they actually do get shipped home. Unfortunately, realism will quickly crush that hope if given the opportunity. ]
Ooo, a free agent. Sounds exciting. Do you have a super cool code name? [ Rosie, you're confusing reality with James Bond again. ]
[Henry never had to deal with a place such as Haven, but from what he'd experienced in Santa Destroy (or any large city), missing people tend to either be dead or runaways. He can't imagine Claudia running off in the wastelands out of the blue, but he never truly knew her well enough to know.
[ The fact that he's vague makes her more suspicious than not. As someone who plays the vague game herself, she knows how to spot when someone doesn't want to talk. Hm. ]
Aw, well. It still sounds cool! And can totally be used as a pick-up line too.
[ eyebrow waggle. rosie has her priorities straight, ok. ]
[The fact that she doesn't question his vagueness and goes on like it's totally normal makes him wonder if she's truly oblivious or just giving him the benefit of the doubt. Either way, he's relieved at the gesture.]
Now there's an idea. Believe it or not, I've never thought to try that out. [He usually doesn't think about using slightly modified descriptions of his actual job to try and get someone to either flirt with him or go home with him, seeing as that's usually not the way he prefers to spend most nights.] If I ever find myself after thinkin' of using it on some poor lass, I'll let you know how it goes.
[ It's neither, but Rose knows the uncomfortableness of people prying. So she tries not to do it herself. Even when she probably should. ]
What, really? I would have pegged you for a charmer back home. [ Actually, she wouldn't have. Henry seems very... efficient, from what little she actually knows. But little white lies never hurt anyone, right? ]
And please do! I'd love to hear all about it. [ She actually wouldn't, but knows it isn't her place to feel as such. So it's easier to pretend the thought of Henry hitting on someone else doesn't bother her at all. Maybe she'll actually believe it after long enough. ]
I'll try not to bore you with any of the trifling details. Let this become more of an exchange, though, yeah? I'd like to hear anything you've got to share, so I would.
[The idea that she'd be bothered even just a smidgen by him hitting on other people would be beyond him. While he can understand it, he just doesn't expect it from someone seemingly carefree and free-spirited as Rosie.]
[ What a pair indeed. And of course it's not Henry's fault in the least for thinking as such. That's exactly the type of image she wants to convey, and will continue to until she can't any longer. But hopefully the day she can't never comes. ]
You got it, dude! I can't promise that they'll all be riveting tales, but I'll share the good stuff with ya'.
[ If she were a lesser person, she actually would in the hopes of making him jealous. But she isn't and knows already that wouldn't work anyway. ]
WHOA I TOTALLY DIDNT SEE THIS ONE
